[edit] How To Learn Drawing

Learn How an Artist Thinks: There is a real reason why your friend may be able to draw complex pictures, while you can barely draw a straight line. The difference between you, and your friend is that he is using a different part of his brain than you are when he draws. Artists see the world in terms of shapes, lines, colors, and the relationships between these things. Those who seem to have the ability to draw great from the time they are young children, have simply learned how to use that part of their brain, so the talent they are born with, is the ability to use a part of their brain that most people don’t use. You can learn how to use this part of your brain when you learn to draw. To think like an artist, you must learn how to let the creative part of your brain take over, so that you can picture what is not tangible.

Get Some Drawing Materials: There are some basic supplies that every artist needs, even if you just want to learn to draw. You will need a lap desk, erasers, and 5B or 4B pencils. There are more types of supplies you will need when you become an advanced artist, but for now, these supplies should be sufficient.

Look for Online Tutorials: As with most types of skills, today you can find online tutorials that can help you learn to draw. Most online tutorials are free, and some are even taught by experienced artists. This is a great way to learn to draw if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on art classes.

Try Drawing On Your Own: After you have went through an art book, or online tutorial, you can start dabbling in art and draw your own pictures. Perfecting your ability to draw may take longer this way, but one advantage is that your style will be yours, and not molded by an instructor.

Take an Art Class: Not only can you take art classes at your local university or college, in some parts of the country, there are schools devoted to art. Depending on what your goal is, and what level of achievement you would like to reach, you may also want to invest in a formal art education.
